RPGs you can actually play in short bursts
The problem with most mobile RPGs is they assume you have forty minutes to spare. Sometimes you've got seven, waiting for a kettle to boil. Here's what I look for in an RPG that respects those gaps.
First, saveable progress mid-fight, or at least short encounters. Emberfall Saga does this well — battles are quick and the game remembers exactly where you were. Second, menus that don't bury your daily tasks three taps deep.
I've found that turn-based combat suits short sessions far better than real-time. You can put the phone down mid-decision and nothing explodes. Auto-battle helps for grinding but I turn it off for story fights.
None of this means shallow games. The best ones layer depth in a way you can engage with lightly or deeply, depending on the day. That flexibility is what keeps me coming back.
